As we reported earlier at this blog, a UPS plane crashed in Dubai around 12:00 p.m. EDT today. Two crewmembers were on board the flight and there are no known survivors.
UPSers around the world are mourning the loss of our fellow employees. Our thoughts are with the families and friends of our crewmembers. We are grateful for the outpouring of condolences we’ve seen shared online. It is a tragedy that has touched many.
A UPS investigation team has been dispatched to the accident scene. We are working with authorities to assist with the investigation. We will continue to share updates at the UPS Pressroom as more information becomes available.
Thank you for your support.
Update 9/5/2010
As we shared at the UPS Pressroom yesterday, we’ve confirmed the names of the crewmembers killed in Friday’s plane accident in Dubai. Captain Doug Lampe of Louisville, Kentucky, and First Officer Matthew Bell of Sanford, Florida, lost their lives in the crash of Flight 6. Captain Lampe has been with UPS since 1995 while First Officer Bell joined the company in 2006. While we grieve over the loss of our fellow UPSers, our investigative team is working closely with authorities to determine the cause of the accident.
If you believe you had a shipment on the plane, you can call our customer service center at 1-800-PICK-UPS for more information.

Will UPS at some point release the names of the two crew
members that were killed? My wife has a customer that
has become a friend who is a pilot for UPS and is known
to fly this route regularly. At any rate our thoughts and
prayers are with the crew members and their families.
what about packages ?

Steve – Thanks for sharing your condolences. We

continue to provide updates as they become available at
the UPS Pressroom site. You can find a link to the site in
this blog post.
Matt was one of my best friends and fraternity brother. I
have been in contact with his family. I must commend
UPS on it’s professionalism and thoughtfulness on this
tragic situation. He often praised UPS as an employer
and was very proud to serve you as a company. You
have given me hope that some companies out there are
not all about the bottom line. Thank you.
I work for UPS, but I am serving with the U.S. Navy in Dubai
as a deployed reservist. After we heard a plane crashed on
the freeway, we all contacted each other to make sure
none of us were driving on the freeway. Then we found out it
was next to the freeway and was a UPS plane. I was
shocked about the news after it happened. I have been
checking the paper every day cutting articles. They are
calling the two pasengers HEROES because they turned
the plane to avoid a populated area. I am proud of the crew
and to work for UPS, and the talk in Dubai has been all
positive about UPS. To check articles on crash
