Oosthuizen Becomes UPS’s Newest Golf Ambassador

Louis OosthuizenSouth African Louis Oosthuizen has signed on to become UPS’s newest brand ambassador for golf. The man, affectionately nicknamed Shrek by his friends for his uncanny resemblance to the character, will join the world’s top ranked golfer, England’s Lee Westwood, along with Indian born Jeev Milkha Singh to make up the UPS golf ambassadors.

Oosthuizen, who has been on the European tour since 2003, is enjoying his most successful year on tour. He won this year’s 139th Open Championship on Scotland’s hallowed Old Course at Royal Saint Andrews by SEVEN strokes.

UPS leverages its ambassadors in a variety of fashions; meet and greets at the tournaments with customers, autograph merchandise for employee recognition programs as well as other initiatives. What lucky UPSer wouldn’t want a signed flag from 2010 Masters runner-up Lee Westwood?!

The UPS golf ambassadors make up an interesting group but not quite as interesting as their caddies. Singh’s caddy, Jan McDaniel, is one of only two woman “loopers,” caddies for the layperson who has not seen “Caddyshack,” on the European tour. Louis’ caddy, Zack Rasego, is also a rarity, a South African and one of only a handful of black caddies on the tour. Lee Westwood’s caddy, Billy Foster, is a unique character unto himself. This support group is just what UPS is all about: a diverse ally that caters to your business needs and makes your job a lot easier.

Louis is currently 8th in the running for the prestigious European Tour’s money pool, Race to Dubai, where the tour’s money winner at the end of the season cashes in an additional $1.5 million. Over 400,000 UPSers worldwide say welcome aboard Louis and best of luck for the rest of this year and in the 2011 season.

  1. I’m Watching Oosthuizen play in China and he is wearing a checkered white/black shirt. Where can I find a shirt like that? It’s cool.
