Slovakia and Israel – What’s the UPS Connection?
Category: Global Impact, UPS News

Jeopardy is one of my favorite game shows (aside from Wheel of Fortune). There’s so many unknown facts revealed on the show. And the research I conducted to complete this blog opened my eyes as well to a new part of the world.

Did you know…

  • Slovakia has a population of more than 5 million people?
  • Slovakia’s chief crops are wheat, rye, corn, potatoes and sugar beets?
  • The Dead Sea in Israel is the lowest body of water on Earth?
  • Albert Einstein was offered the presidency of Israel in 1952?

I know you’re asking yourself, “What’s the connection between Slovakia, Israel and UPS?”  Funny, you should ask!

UPS today announced the expansion of UPS Express Freight Service into Israel and Slovakia to serve expanding hubs for high-tech, industrial manufacturing and automotive companies. Slovakia and Israel are increasingly important players in the global trade arena and today’s announcement illustrates the reach of the UPS network and the breadth of the company’s portfolio of transportation and logistics services.

So, the next time you’re sitting at the dinner table and Albert Einstein comes up in conversation, you’ll have an interesting fact to share – and UPS’s connection.

  1. Tyre,

I too am a fan of Jeopardy! and it’s interesting that you
should mention high-tech and manufacturing. Perhaps the
demand for high-tech could mean more manufacturing jobs.

By now, I’m sure you heard of IBM’s Watson and his
domination over two Jepoardy! champions, Ken Jennings and
    Brad Rutter.

Here’s an article on Watson – IBM researchers show love
    for ‘Jeopardy’ champion Watson

My question is how would UPS use a program like Watson?

    Thanks,

    Johann Lohrmann
