No Haunted Costume Hunts this Year

Halloween is right around the corner and I still have no idea what costume I will wear.

I’ve traditionally stayed clear of ghost and goblins, last year rallying with friends as a battalion of Spartan characters re-enacting the Battle of Thermopylae from the action film 300. We were met by costumed foes as we trekked the Waikiki strip in Honolulu, Hawaii, but ended the night victorious, chanting one of the film’s most remembered lines: “This … is … Sparta!”

It was a lot of fun, but it was so much easier 24 years ago when my mother selected my costumes and I’d venture out in the neighborhood dressed as my favorite cartoon character or sports figure.

Terry Rowinski, chief operating officer of CostumeExpress.com says Angry Birds, Avengers (Iron Man, Thor, Spiderman), and Star Wars costumes for both parents and children are trending this Halloween season.

I’m not too sure an Angry Birds costume will work for me, so I’m still undecided.

Halloween is the kick-off to the holiday spending season. The National Retail Federation projects consumers will spend more than $8 billion on decorations, costumes and candy. Last year, spending hit almost $7 billion supporting signs of improvement in consumer confidence. Online sales are expected to grow 12 percent.

Rowinski says this year consumers are waiting closer to Halloween to buy their costumes. “We offer flexible shipping options and an easy returns process.” With UPS Returns Flexible Access, it’s easy to return those unwanted costumes. Customers can drop off their package at thousands of UPS and U.S. Postal Service® locations – including their personal mailbox. Rowinski worked with UPS to integrate the service onto the Costume Express website earlier this year. Now customers can print a return label, schedule a pickup and track the return shipment back to the e-tailer.

I look forward to taking advantage of this partnership and commitment to consumers … just as soon as I figure out what I want to be this year.
