In preparation for our upcoming Santa visit, my 5 year old said, “I can’t decide what to ask for – a tablet or an e-reader!” When I was 5, I was likely hoping for a Strawberry Shortcake doll or a Cabbage Patch kid. Technology in all realms – whether receiving it as a gift or using it to power business – makes the holiday season, and it’s always an important role at UPS.
During the holiday season, we expect to deliver more than 28 million packages on Peak Day and an astonishing 527 million packages between November 26 and Christmas Eve. We credit the success of our holiday peak season to our people and our technology. Technology encompasses every element of operations from distribution centers and warehouses to trucks, drivers’ handheld computers and even the packages themselves.
To learn more about how technology powers the magic of the holiday season at UPS, check out this article by Jack Levis, director of process management. Or if you prefer to listen, you can hear more in-depth discussion about how this is leveraged to benefit the business and most importantly, our customers. (Part 1, Part 2)
