4 Ways to Deliver the Perfect Valentine’s Day
UPS Valentine's Day Shipping

Wait, it’s February 1st already? You know what that means: Valentine’s Day is just two short weeks away. Time to start planning the perfect day for your sweetheart: beautiful flowers, a decadent lobster dinner, tasty sweets, and hey, maybe even a little something that sparkles.

Today, Valentine’s Day is celebrated around the world with a variety of different customs and traditions. In the United States, it’s one of the biggest gift-giving days of the year. According to this survey from the National Retail Federation, consumers are expected to spend $18.6 billion in 2013. And more than one-quarter of folks will shop online. That’s a lot of love to go around!

Of course, all that takes logistics.  At UPS, we start planning how we’ll deliver Valentine’s Day before Thanksgiving, and keep adjusting plans right through the day itself. We talk with our customers about their expectations – for some businesses, Valentine’s is their busiest time of the year.  And we also look back at our plans from previous years. (FYI, the last time Valentine’s Day fell on a Thursday was in 2008.)

rosesRight around now, we start seeing the signs of Valentine’s Day in our global logistics network. Millions of flowers will fly on UPS aircraft from locations in Latin America to UPS’s Miami air hub. This facility has a 27,000 square foot cooler to keep the flowers chilled before they travel to their next destination.

Of course, the perfect Valentine’s Day isn’t complete with just flowers. These days, you can order a romantic lobster dinner online and have it delivered to your home overnight – sweet treats like brownies and chocolate-covered berries too! Even life-sized teddy bears are frequent fliers with UPS for Valentine’s Day!

  1. Personally, I would not trust UPS with your package on Valentines Day. Especially since it’s right around the corner. They do not do well with a tight deadline, and quite frankly it’s the worst postal service around if you ask me.
