At CARE, our mission is to serve individuals and families in the poorest communities in the world. We place special emphasis on working with women since they have the power to help lift themselves, their families and entire communities out of poverty. Girls and women are at the heart of CARE’s community-based efforts to improve basic education, prevent the spread of disease, increase access to clean water and sanitation, expand economic opportunity, and protect natural resources. CARE also delivers emergency aid to survivors of war and natural disasters, helping people rebuild their lives.
We know that we cannot fulfill our mission without the help of partners. For 20 years, UPS has been by our side, enabling us to have a positive impact on the communities we serve in over 80 countries around the world. With UPS’s generosity and particular focus on disaster relief, CARE is able to respond more effectively and efficiently to emergencies when they strike.
What exactly does that mean?
It means that our partnership with UPS allows us to ship lifesaving food to malnourished women and children in Mali. It means that we could bring clean water to communities devastated by Hurricane Isaac last year. And it means that we can leverage UPS’s vast logistics expertise to enhance our internal supply chain, in order to get the necessary goods to communities in the fastest time possible.
That last point is particularly noteworthy. UPS has long invested in the internal strengthening of our supply chain—and that type of investment in CARE’s own capacity is tremendously valued. As we roll out a Commodity Tracking System, enabling better visibility and monitoring of the goods we have for deployment after an emergency, we know that we could not have pursued this program without the expertise and backing from UPS.
From direct philanthropic support to in-kind shipping to donated logistical expertise, UPS has taken a strategic approach in its collaboration with CARE. We are grateful for our multifaceted relationship with UPS, and are so pleased to celebrate 20 years of partnering with our Atlanta neighbor!
