E-mail is a funny thing.  The cadence of my workday is set by it, and I have made a game out of getting things out of my inbox as soon as possible.  I prefer to leave at the end of the day with less than 100 e-mails in my inbox, because I treat it as my to-do list.

A project manager with whom I frequently work (and subsequently send a lot of detailed e-mails to) finally just came right out with it: “I’m a scanner.  If you want me to read something, don’t put a lot of text in it.  Just bullet it out for me.”

The summer before I turned 16, I took the driver’s ed class at my high school.  I remember being in a classroom and then driving with a teacher in the parking lot, but I don’t remember much else.  Back then I didn’t have the distraction of a cell phone (I’m showing my age here), but I still managed to get my first ticket when I was 15 (I had my learner’s permit, and was with my mom coming home from the grocery store). 

Nowadays, there are some really cool ways to use technology to impart wisdom before you get behind the wheel.  UPS Road Code is an interactive program that incorporates the safe driving techniques used by our drivers across the world and allows students to get behind the wheel of a virtual driving simulator.

I grew up around the game of golf – driving the cart around the course, holding the flag so that my parents could sink in a putt, and doing the math to tell my mom how well (or poorly) she was doing.

Much to my father’s chagrin, I never picked up the sport.  I found it very frustrating to be precise when hitting such a little ball.  Hand/eye coordination has never been my strong suit.

Our ambassadors Lee Westwood, Louis Oosthuizen, and Jeev Milkha Singh will be teeing off today at The Open Championship and we wish them the best of luck.  Bring home that Claret Jug!

This week out in San Diego, California, our Senior Manager of Sustainability Solutions, Arnold Barlow, will be speaking at the Sustainable Brands conference.  It’s a gathering of people from large corporations as well as start-ups to discuss forward-thinking ideas about improving the future. 

Arnold will be talking about “Innovations in Sustainable Packaging”. We caught up with Arnold before he headed out to California to talk about our Eco Responsible Packaging Program.  He explains the three elements of sustainable packaging: damage prevention, cube optimization (product to package ratio), and materials selection.

Being a mom of three young kids, I always have a “To Do” list that’s a million miles long. I went to a workshop recently that encouraged making a “Not To Do” list to help reduce stress and create more time in the day.
