Want to be Santa’s Helper? We’re Hiring Seasonal Employees
Holiday delivery

Could you use some extra money to help pay for those extra holiday gifts?

A recent survey reports that Americans have spent about $650 per household on holiday gifts for loved ones over the past two years. As my household continues to grow, I’d say that number is conservative.

UPS is currently hiring approximately 1,000 seasonal employees in the Louisville area, with jobs starting at $20 an hour for full-time seasonal drivers. Driver helpers are also needed, with those jobs starting at $12.88 an hour. There’s also a need for part-time package handlers who work a few hours each day starting at $8.50 an hour. Both day and night-shift positions are available.

Playing Tug of War with a UPS 757 for Special Olympics Kentucky
Pull a plane

The thought I kept having as I watched teams pull a UPS 757 cargo jet during the Special Olympics Plane Pull on Saturday, September 29 at the Louisville International Airport was: “That’s a pretty tough tug-of-war opponent.”

Yet time and time again, teams of 20 participants would step up to the 147,000-pound UPS browntail, size up the competition, grab the rope, and pull with all of their might, trying to move the plane 12 feet faster than all of the other teams.

As a lifelong college football fan who also spent 12 years covering the sport as a freelance journalist, I like to think of myself as somewhat of an expert when it comes to NCAA football. I love conference debates, banter about the validity of national championships and pretty much any discussion that can be done while tailgating prior to kickoff on a Saturday afternoon.

That’s why I got excited when I heard UPS was posting weekly college football quizzes. I figured this would be a breeze. After all, a college football quiz from UPS wouldn’t be tough.

As one famous college football commentator would say: Not so fast, my friend.

One of the most eye-opening experiences I’ve ever had during my 12-year UPS career was the time I spent on a package car helping a UPS service provider in the Louisville area.

I remember being so proud to don the brown uniform for the first time that I made my wife get up early to snap a photo before I walked out the door. By the end of a day that included more than a hundred stops and what seemed to be equally as many aching muscles, I was even more proud to say I had worn the uniform.

Our drivers truly are the face of UPS. They are efficient, hard-working, diligent, safe, dependable and helpful. While kind enough to acknowledge a customer and exchange a few words, they are also focused to stay on task and move to serve the next individual or business awaiting a package.

Logistics and Basketball: Video
UPS Freight

For a basketball junkie like me, the draft is one of the most entertaining nights of the year. It includes anticipation, suspense, dreams coming true – all the elements of a compelling story.

Last night’s draft was of particular interest to me, because UPS delivered the 2012 NCAA® Men’s Final Four® court to New Orleans back in March, where some of the players that were drafted performed brilliantly in front of a worldwide audience.
