The following post was written by Steve B. Brooks and originally appeared on The American Legion website.

United Parcel Service, better known to the world as UPS, has 24,000 veterans on its payroll and has a goal of hiring thousands more. Hundreds of its stores are run by veterans.

But Myron Gray, vice president of U.S. Operations for the shipping giant, told delegates to the 96th Annual American Legion National Convention on Aug. 28 that his company’s hiring practices aren’t driven solely by a sense of obligation. Read More »

“3 Reasons Why We Ship With UPS”
medelita

The following was posted by Dan Stepchew, chief marketing officer for Medelita on the company’s blog

We use UPS as the preferred shipping method for all of our orders, especially our international orders, for a whole list of business-related reasons that I don’t need to get into. There are, however, 3 main benefits that we enjoy when working with UPS:

1. Our orders get where they need to go, end of story.

While we completely understand that not every single package is going to make it to our customers exactly on time and in the right place, an overwhelming majority of them do. This is astounding considering the company delivers an average of 1.6 million packages in a single day using 237 airplanes in 220 countries around the world. When a package doesn’t get where it needs to go, it’s typically a painless process to resolve the situation. Read More »

Kuehn Sees Growth in Next-Day Delivery
Capture

While established companies and recent start-ups promising same-day delivery are getting a lot of media air time these days, UPS Chief Financial Officer Kurt Kuehn predicts even faster growth for shippers who wait just a little longer.

“Same day is not new. Courier services have been doing that in metro areas for a long time,” said Kuehn, who appeared on CNBC’s Squawk Box as a part of the network’s Global CFO Council series. “We think rather than same-day delivery, the big push will be local next-day delivery. We see (next day) as a much bigger force over time than the limited same day deliveries.” Read More »

Louis Oosthuizen Makes a Comeback to Win First Tournament of the Year
Louis Oosthuizen

UPS golf ambassador Louis Oosthuizen dazzled his onlooking countrymen while holding off Scotland’s Scott Jamieson to win the 2013 Volvo Golf Champions in Durban, South Africa last weekend. Louis shot a closing round 66 to catch the field and claim his first victory of the 2013 golf season.

After a disappointing 3rd round that saw Louis shoot a 74 (I would take that in a heartbeat, but enough about my golf game), he stormed out of the gates on Sunday birdieing six of the first 11 holes and setting a blistering pace to the last round.

Small Business Makes Big Mascots
AvantGarb

Growing up in the South, I have been ingrained with the idea that football is king and that next to a loved one’s birthdays and holidays (not by much though) the kickoff to football season is to be circled on calendars- not to be missed.

Recognizing the importance and reach of football, UPS recently announced a significant expansion to its college sponsorship program.  UPS is teaming with IMG College, the Pac-12 and the Big Ten conferences to reach college sports fans in top markets across the country.  The significant multi-year agreement provides UPS a national footprint with local reach through sponsorship opportunities with 68 IMG university partners across the country.

Along with outstanding athletic traditions, these schools all have a mascot.  Who doesn’t love a cute and cuddly mascot to hug and get a picture with on game day?  Did you ever wonder who makes these game day staples?

UPS Golf Ambassador Keeps Tight Grip On World’s #1 Ranking

Golfer Lee Westwood retained his world’s No. 1 position with an exciting finish to the Ballatine’s Championship in South Korea over the weekend.

Lee had to sweat out a birdie putt attempt on the last hole by Spaniard Miguel Angel Jimenez, which if it had gone in would have put the two friends in a playoff.  The win is Lee’s second in as many weeks (he won last week on the Asian Tour in Jakarta to take over the world’s No. 1 ranking).

Happy Birthday To Lee: UPS Golf Ambassador Westwood Back On Top Of World Golf Rankings

Persistence pays off. Yesterday Lee Westwood won the Indonesian Masters in Jakarta to reclaim the world golf ranking’s No. 1 seat from Germany’s Martin Kaymer.

Lee celebrated his 38th birthday on Sunday and what better present to himself than to wrestle away the top spot from the young, talented German. All was not just birthday wishes and blowing out candles as Lee won on the other side of the world and had to wait the equivalent of a half-day to find out if he would, indeed, again become the world’s top rated golfer.
