Here Comes the Sun: Bringing Solar Power to NASCAR
Carl Edwards

As the Senior Director of Market Development at Suniva, I have the good fortune of working with many of our customers on new ways to incorporate solar photovoltaics (PV) into their business. Clean, green energy from the sun is a natural fit with many organizations’ overall sustainability strategies. I’ve seen a real uptake in the United States now that solar has become so much more affordable. That’s personally gratifying since I have a passion for implementing cleantech to sustainability.

UPS and Scuderia Ferrari: Racing the Globe (Video)
F1 Testing in Barcelona - Day One

Have you ever had the chance to see a Formula 1 car run? If not, it’s an experience like no other. Before coming to UPS, I had the chance to attend many different sporting events, but none stands out in my mind like the first time I watched F1 cars run. I was at a race and got to stand in the first turn on the course. Hearing that high-pitched whine and feeling the ground shake as the cars came around the track at 220 mph was an awesome experience.

Check the UPS Team Performance Index Before You Make Your Bracket Picks

You’ve heard many pundits over the years talk about their views on how defense wins championships, or how offense or teamwork wins championships. Everyone has their own formula on what one element is the most important to team success.

But it’s hard for anyone to argue that if you combine all of the right elements together – teamwork, efficiency, speed, and reliability – that teams that perform at the highest levels across all facets of the game will win more often than those that do not.

Louis Oosthuizen Makes a Comeback to Win First Tournament of the Year
Louis Oosthuizen

UPS golf ambassador Louis Oosthuizen dazzled his onlooking countrymen while holding off Scotland’s Scott Jamieson to win the 2013 Volvo Golf Champions in Durban, South Africa last weekend. Louis shot a closing round 66 to catch the field and claim his first victory of the 2013 golf season.

After a disappointing 3rd round that saw Louis shoot a 74 (I would take that in a heartbeat, but enough about my golf game), he stormed out of the gates on Sunday birdieing six of the first 11 holes and setting a blistering pace to the last round.

4 Fast and Furious Takeaways from NASCAR Season Finale
NASCAR race

Growing up in palm-tree lined South Florida, the closest I ever came to a car race was zooming around in kid-sized go-carts at a local amusement park. Born to Cuban-immigrant parents, I was more familiar with popular spectator events like jai alai than NASCAR racing.

College Athletics: It’s All About the Tickets (Video)
college campus

I’ve had a front row seat as the Athletic Ticket Manager at Appalachian State University for seven years. When I started, we sent out 5,000 season tickets. That’s doubled to 10,000 season tickets which are distributed to more than 2,500 fans. That’s a lot of tickets needing the right shipping logistics to get to our fans.

Game Chang-eer: UPS Driver takes on Doug Flutie (Video)
Eddie Hughes

Eddie Hughes’ history as a game changer goes way back for this 23-year UPS driver.

He remembers it like it was yesterday: “It’s 1983, Doug Flutie (and Boston College) vs. West Virginia, and I was on defense. Doug Flutie has tried to score three times. We stopped him on the goal line. This is the game-changing play. Our backs are against the wall…”

Before he became a star player for UPS, Eddie Hughes was an outside linebacker for the West Virginia University (WVU) Mountaineers. He recalls the scene—and the logistics—of his most treasured football moment, WVU’s 27-17 victory over Boston College on September 24, 1983. Eddie made seven tackles to help his team win that game. He continues:

The Year in Review: Golf Edition (Video)
UPS golfers Louis Oosthuizen, Lee Westwood and Jeev Milkha Singh

It’s always exciting to track the progress of our three golf ambassadors, but 2012 has been a particularly incredible year.

It started with Louis Oosthuizen winning the first European Tour event of the year, the Africa Open, in January. What better way to start? He then came within an inch, literally, of winning the Masters, losing in a playoff to Bubba Watson. He did provide one of the tournament’s most spectacular moments ever with his famous double-eagle at the 2nd hole. Just one short week later, Louis recorded his second victory of the season by winning the Maybank Malaysian Open.

Meet UPS Ambassador Troy Calhoun
Troy Calhoun

I love October.  Leaves are turning, temps are dropping, and college football starts getting really serious.  As a UGA alum (’82) who watched Herschel Walker romp ‘tween the hedges many an autumn Saturday, nothing warms my heart more than a cool fall day in October.  Showdown Saturdays.  Huge conference rivalry games.  Vegging on the sofa watching endless hours of football.

It just doesn’t get any better than that.  And for all of us college football fans, UPS is making the 2012 college football season even better by adding some great game-changer ambassadors: ESPN Analyst Kirk Herbstreit,  ESPN Analyst Desmond Howard, Oregon Head Coach Chip Kelly and Air Force Academy Head Coach Troy Calhoun.

Ideas That Changed NASCAR: iRacing Video
iRacing

If you’re like me, more than likely you endured a few family road-trip vacations in your formative years.  And if your dad is like my dad, he had the route and timing planned out days in advance, accounting for refueling, food and bathroom stops.  There were multiple folding maps and a few pages of handwritten notes stored somewhere within arm’s reach of the driver or front-seat passenger.  Yes, this was back in the dark ages before smartphones and talking GPS map devices.  There was little or no technology to help us strategically map our route and time our stops.  Before there was TomTom, we navigated by MomMom.
