Without Logistics, Rock’n Roll Doesn’t Happen (Video)
tickets

I absolutely love hearing live music. I enjoy large arenas to hear Grammy-winning artists, multi-day festivals, small venues to see new bands, Monday open mike nights to support my friends, participating in choirs on Sundays, and even singing in the shower!

Since I’m far from a mega superstar, I’m in awe of a musician’s capability to put on an incredible performance. As fans sitting in the stands (for me, the cheap seats), we see the band, instruments, lights, and smoke machines on stage, but have no idea about what’s going on behind the scenes.

Logistics Makes Music More Sustainable

UPS has partnered with Live Nation to offer the music touring industry sustainable solutions that help eco-conscious artists reduce the carbon impact generated by the transport of their tours.  Recently, Dave Matthews Band Caravan worked with UPS to make their multi-city, multi-stage festival tour as efficient and sustainable as possible. During the tour, stages were built and swiftly transported to each concert location and UPS helped the Dave Matthews Band Caravan measure, manage and mitigate carbon emissions.

Rock-Solid Performance by UPSer Gets the Show on the Road
Murrary Wihlidal

Jerry Ross (aka The Compass Guy) originally shared this story at The Compass blog. It’s the first story in our month-long series of UPSers as Everyday Heroes.

Little ditty about Jack and Diane, two American kids growin’ up in the heartland.
Here’s how a UPS guy – a bit of a star – saved the day for a customer with a boat and a car.
Oh yeah, life goes on … our guy solved the problem with his brains and his brawn.
Oh yeah, life goes on … and service might improve when your former shipper has gone …

I admit it. The Compass Guy is no superstar when it comes to playing guitar. But I enjoy trying. And John Mellencamp’s “Jack and Diane” is a favorite because it’s an easy, simple classic. Without doubt, it’s definitely a tune worth turning the amplifier up to 11 for – when Mrs. Compass Expert is out of the house, anyway.

Now, UPS folks don’t enjoy a reputation as being the best in the business for nothing. And Murray Wihlidal, a UPS supervisor in Canada, is a rockin’ example of how the folks in brown also can turn it up to 11 – or even 12 – when it really counts.

Live Concerts Get Greener with Help from UPS and Live Nation Entertainment

“If there is something to be changed in this world, then it can only happen through music.”

                                                                          -  Jimi Hendrix

I try to avoid hyperbole, but I truly believe music is one of the most powerful forces on the planet. It touches people on a deep, emotional level transcending differences in language, culture, political views and socio-economic status.

Even with his scientifically-focused mind, Albert Einstein understood and appreciated the value music brings to our lives when he observed, “If I were not a physicist, I would probably be a musician. I often think in music. I live my daydreams in music. I see my life in terms of music. … I get most joy in life out of music.”
