It’s hard to believe that just a year ago we launched UPS My Choice. We’ve signed up more than 1.8 million consumers since then and delivered more than 20 million packages to My Choice members. We continue to hear from our customers how using My Choice makes receiving packages much easier. We also get lots of questions, such as:

Q: I am going to be traveling this holiday season and don’t want to have any packages delivered while I am gone.  Can I have my packages held?

A: Yes! We recently added a vacation option.  All you need to do is navigate to your preferences page under the “Vacation Options” section and tell us when you will be gone. Select whether you want us to deliver your packages to your local The UPS Store (good for vacations lasting up to 7 days) or have us deliver them the day after you return (good for vacations lasting up to 14 days).

Turning one is a big deal!

For the past 365 days, UPS My Choice has been helping almost 2 million consumers get their shipments delivered when and where it’s convenient for them. UPS sends an email or text the day before the package arrives and if the delivery time doesn’t work, there are options to reschedule or reroute it.

Throughout the past year, UPS has sent more than 20 million of those delivery alerts and delivered 18 million UPS My Choice shipments! That’s pretty good for a service that’s just getting started.

I might be one of the last few people who doesn’t shop online. Forgive me, but I LOVE trying on fabulous shoes. Sometimes all you need is a little retail therapy and sorry – I can’t get that experience over the Internet. I’m definitely in the minority; about 75 million people out there buy something online once every three months.

Today, comScore and UPS released a new study analyzing consumers’ online shopping behaviors. The Online Shopping Customer Experience Study polled more than 3,100 online shoppers to gain insight from pre-purchase to post-delivery. Free shipping and even free returns is a hot topic in the retail industry and the survey confirmed it’s important to online shoppers, but the results also showed it’s not the only driver on the online super highway. In fact, 40% of consumers said they are willing to pay for shipping if it means they can receive their packages faster.

We have all been there – you get home after a long day to find one of those “sorry we missed you” notices stuck on the door. And if you’re anything like me, rearranging my busy schedule or trying to find the time to go pick up the package does not always make it on my “to-do” list. It’s that time of year – yes, holiday shopping season! Whether it’s for you or for family and friends, online retailers are offering spectacular deals – especially on Cyber Monday. This online shopping “holiday” made its debut on Nov. 28, 2005,  and has quickly become one of the largest online shopping days of the year.

According to comScore, the 2010 U.S. online holiday shopping season brought in a record-breaking $32.6 billion in retail spending. This marked a 12 percent increase over 2009. Cyber Monday made history when consumer spending exceeded $1 billion for the first time in a single day. As internet commerce continues to grow, package delivery is becoming an important element of the full customer experience.
