How I Lost 5 Lbs. in One Week as a UPS Holiday Driver Helper
Andrew Hurd

It’s been said that you don’t really know someone until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes. Well, now that I’ve walked a mile (quite literally) in the shoes of a UPS driver helper, I can say that the work UPS drivers, loaders, and seasonal helpers did to deliver a hassle-free holiday was truly awe-inspiring.

Here at “Big Brown,” it’s normal for rookies such as myself to help out in the operations and hubs during the holidays (in my case the week before Christmas) to get a firsthand experience of “peak”, our busiest time of the year.

Want to be Santa’s Helper? We’re Hiring Seasonal Employees
Holiday delivery

Could you use some extra money to help pay for those extra holiday gifts?

A recent survey reports that Americans have spent about $650 per household on holiday gifts for loved ones over the past two years. As my household continues to grow, I’d say that number is conservative.

UPS is currently hiring approximately 1,000 seasonal employees in the Louisville area, with jobs starting at $20 an hour for full-time seasonal drivers. Driver helpers are also needed, with those jobs starting at $12.88 an hour. There’s also a need for part-time package handlers who work a few hours each day starting at $8.50 an hour. Both day and night-shift positions are available.

Out of Your Comfort Zone?

I’m currently on a “peak” season assignment working at the UPS Forest Park facility. This is a departure from my role in public relations at UPS but is giving me a great month-long opportunity to see the operations in action, and help coordinate the logistics of teaming our drivers with new part-time seasonal helpers. UPS hires 50,000 seasonal workers to help deliver 430 million packages between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I’m excited to be doing my part!

Bob Marino, vice president and chief operating officer of Café Press, is tall and slender. He has dark hair and a goatee. While he may not look a lot like jolly old Saint Nick, he has several of the same characteristics: He is full of charisma and energy, has a band of merry elves who keep his factory running, makes gifts for all those who are naughty and nice and most importantly… has a big brown “sleigh,” better known as a UPS truck, there to support him.
