Time is Money: How Mobile is Becoming the New Internet (Video)
mobile

Back in the day, whenever I had to make a deposit at the bank, I’d have to drive there, wait in line at the drive thru, and hand my signed check over to the bank attendant.

Now that my bank has an app, I’ve saved at least 15 minutes each time I would’ve had to travel to the physical bank branch. I love the convenience of depositing checks into my account with the snap of a picture from my mobile device!  What used to take minutes now takes seconds, and for me, time is money.

Olympics and Logistics
UPS package car in London

Ever since I was a little girl I remember watching the summer and winter Olympics with my family.  It helped me understand that with talent and a lot of hard work many athletes see their Olympic dreams come true.  Not only that, I learned the names of countries that I did not even know existed -Azerbaijan, Slovenia and Uruguay just to name a few.

UPS has been hard at work too.  We now electronically service even more customer’s global shipping needs on ups.com.  Our recent country technology expansion of our calculate transits times, rates, shipping and tracking applications to over 55 new countries will reduce manual processes previously in place.

Here are a couple of ways UPS technology makes things at the Olympics run smoother.

Stop Idling and Get Moving: UPS’s Tips For Fuel Conservation
UPS package car in San Francisco

Memorial Day marks the unofficial start of summer, which means millions of people will hit the nation’s back roads and highways en route to vacation destinations. In fact, AAA reports that an additional 500,000 cars will hit the road this Memorial Day weekend compared to last year although many will stay closer to home. Stop and go traffic, poor vehicle maintenance and cars laden with vacation gear can reduce fuel economy significantly.

With 100,000 drivers on the road throughout the world, we have mastered the art and science of fuel conservation. Via a combination of technology and driver behavior, UPS avoided driving more than 63.5 million miles in one year with an associated emissions avoidance of 68,000 metric tonnes.

According to comScore, U.S. retail e-commerce spending reached a record $161 billion in 2011.  And Goldman Sachs forecasts e-commerce to be nearly $1 trillion by the end of next year. Before he left, I asked Jim for his thoughts about e-commerce.

About Sherial Cubit

Since 2005, I've helped to deliver various aspects of the UPS online experience, primarily by writing content, working with agencies to develop microsites, and producing videos for our websites. Outside of work, I enjoy making jewelry, serving in parish ministries, and developing my multilingual skills. I also consume a potentially unhealthy amount of music, social media, and college football--rooting faithfully for my alma mater, the University of Texas. Hook ‘em!
