Two years ago, I was one of those people that only ordered online occasionally and when I did, it was only for those hard-to-find items. Now there is very little I won’t order online. The convenience of not having to deal with long lines, being able to shop whenever I want to, and being able to find the best deals has made online shopping my preferred method.

If you’re like most people, you probably did some online shopping this holiday season – on your laptop, tablet, or smart phone, in the comfort of your own home with a big mug of coffee or hot cocoa.

I’ve had a front row seat as the Athletic Ticket Manager at Appalachian State University for seven years. When I started, we sent out 5,000 season tickets. That’s doubled to 10,000 season tickets which are distributed to more than 2,500 fans. That’s a lot of tickets needing the right shipping logistics to get to our fans.

Well, nothing, really. As a chronic and long-time insomniac, I’ve seen a lot of late night infomercials, and thought I’d try their approach with our latest and greatest product. (At this point, pretend that I’m TALKING REALLY LOUD and gesturing wildly at you to get the full effect.)

Introducing the incredible ups.com iGoogle™ gadget!
At ups.com, one of our goals is to make it easier for our customers to use our services and features.  That’s why UPS has taken five of its core features and rolled them all into one multi-function gadget – just like one of those kitchen gadgets that will make a smoothie, carve a radish flower, and practically clean itself!

How will my life improve with this great new product?
The new UPS gadget lets customers track, ship, find UPS locations, calculate shipping costs and transit times, and request a pickup – all from iGoogle and all without logging in to ups.com. It won’t slice a ripe tomato, but it will impress your friends and neighbors!

Growing up in the South, I have been ingrained with the idea that football is king and that next to a loved one’s birthdays and holidays (not by much though) the kickoff to football season is to be circled on calendars- not to be missed.

Recognizing the importance and reach of football, UPS recently announced a significant expansion to its college sponsorship program.  UPS is teaming with IMG College, the Pac-12 and the Big Ten conferences to reach college sports fans in top markets across the country.  The significant multi-year agreement provides UPS a national footprint with local reach through sponsorship opportunities with 68 IMG university partners across the country.

Along with outstanding athletic traditions, these schools all have a mascot.  Who doesn’t love a cute and cuddly mascot to hug and get a picture with on game day?  Did you ever wonder who makes these game day staples?

UPS trackingI’ve been working on ups.com for several years now and have witnessed the site grow to receive on average more than 22 million tracking requests every day, peaking to 40 million on our busiest day!

At UPS, we love small businesses. They’re resourceful, flexible, innovative, and they give good customer service. To put it simply, small businesses are run by good people who care about what they do.These qualities are also at the core of our 103-year old business, so it makes sense to value them in our customers as well. After all, what’s not to love about a mother of four who’s turned a hobby into a bona fide successful business in the midst of its 21st year?

That hobby was volleyball and that mother was Anne Brown, the owner and operator of Tandem Sport, a premier sports medicine and equipment wholesaler based in Louisville, Ky.
